Panasonic ES8249K Arc IV Nano Vortex Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaving System, Black

I purchased a Braun Series 7 790cc since I could not get another one from Amazon.com. Quality and construction go to Braun. Shaving quality and ease of use go to Panasonic. The wet shaving and trimmer of the Panasonic is much better. The Braun requires me to go over my face too many times to get a smooth shave. Then I get red burn on my skin.

I wish I could have had one more shot at the Panasonic. The Braun is very good, I just believe the Panasonic has a better and closer shave.

The self cleaning/charging base was deemed defective, so I must return the shaver to Amazon.com ... again. I requested a replacement, and Amazon.com stated:

"I'm sorry to hear that you experienced the same problem with your replacement shipment. As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread than we originally thought, we are not able to send another replacement."

I must say, the shaver is amazing and with no recourse, I will go for the Braun Series 7 - 790cc instead.

Can't tell you how disappointed I am.

There is a reason to shop on Amazon.com. Amazon.com sent a replacement shaver, no problem. The replacement shaver is incredible. It is the closest shave I've had in years. I replaced a Norelco 7775X and the closeness of the shave with the Panasonic is amazing, just as good if not better than a blade!

I am struggling with the self cleaning/charging base. I continue to receive a red status light during the cleaning cycle. I've performed all of the checks, replaced the detergent cartridge. Same result. Red status light. I have contacted Panasonic tech support, no answers yet. I'll update that next.

I'd rate the shaver 5 stars, absolutely. The cleaning/charging base. 1 star.

After many years using Panasonic wet/dry shavers I switched to Norelco wet/dry shavers with the gel dispensors. Worked OK, didn't like the shape of the head, and I finally needed a new one.

I decided to go back to Panasonic, and I received my Panasonic ES8249K shaver today and I was thrilled! I carefully assembled and charged it. Started to shave, and it sounded SO COOL, then suddenly it made a HORRIBLE SOUND. I turned it off and I noticed that the center foil head had a HOLE IN IT and a noticeable sharp burr. AUGH! What happened! I didn't even get a chance to use it!

I could not use the shaver since it would cut my face, so I immediately called Panasonic Technical Support. What a horrible experience. No one was willing to help me, as it was not a "warranty issue". Warranty issue? I just turned it on and it broke! People were pleasant (sounded like a call center in India) and would not go beyond their "customer service script". This is the problem with outsourced customer service. Robots, no decision making, just repeat the same phrases over and over again until the customer gets frustrated and gives up. No reasoning will help.

I transferred from Technical Support to Parts to see if a replacement head could be sent AND the part is not available since the unit is so new. I was transferred back to Technical Support where I was told again this was not covered under warranty and there was nothing they would do, and was told to return it to the store.

This is a $249 ($199 on Amazon.Com) shaver and I didn't even use it ONCE and it BROKE! I didn't do anyting wrong at all!

Fortunately Amazon.Com is awesome, and I am exchanging it for another unit and hopefully this one will work just fine. The features and design are terrific, I just hope it is durable and reliable.

In the end, I am looking for a company that TOTALLY supports their products. If I do anything wrong, I own up. This was a defective unit and all that needed to happen was for Panasonic to do the right thing.
